Buying Art Online: Tips for Choosing the Right Piece

Large-scale paintings create a particularly striking and refined presence in an interior. But how do you choose the right size when purchasing artwork online?

One of the main challenges is visualizing how the piece will look in your space and on your wall.

In such cases, a few simple steps can help you assess the proportions more accurately and make a confident decision—especially when choosing between different formats.

Here are some practical guidelines:

Step 1
Select a painting you are drawn to and decide where it will be placed on the wall.

Step 2
Using the artwork’s dimensions, lightly mark its outline on the wall with painter’s tape. This allows you to visualize the scale directly within your space.

Step 3
You may also create a full-size mockup using paper or cardboard and temporarily attach it to the wall. This gives an even clearer sense of proportion and placement.

Step 4
Trust your intuition and aesthetic sensibility. Experiment with different sizes and formats until you find the one that feels right.

Note
Use only low-adhesion painter’s tape to avoid damaging the wall surface or paint.
